Here's something I don't get a chance to do very often; a more realistic illustration using charcoal. This was a charity piece done for the Face of Compassion art exhibition held in Sydney recently, and is an interpretation of a photograph taken by Katrina Gulbrandsen, used by permission. I love that you don't see their mouths, so the smiles are all in the eyes.

I did this drawing today as a test to see if I can draw Aboriginal characters in a realistic comic-book style.
I did a rough pencil drawing and then cleaned it up on my lightbox using a 0.3, 0.5 and a normal pencil, all HB, for those interested. I adapted the faces from real people.

I haven't posted for ages, mainly because my wife had a baby on the 15th August, which somehow seems so long ago now.
But anyway, I thought I would post this picture that I drew back in 2001 while working on the Jungle Book sequal at Disney. It's another picture that I just did for kicks and I probably won't do anything else with it, so I thought I would post it here.

I did this for a home-made card, and I ended up selling it to a stamp company for $35. Looking back, it was a stupid decision. Hindsight is a beautiful thing, as John Reuben would say.

Just coz I'll never do anything else with it, thought I would post this picture I drew back in high school with pencil and Texta.We're talking 13 years ago, dang, where's the time gone? The original is A3 size. I don't even remember the name of the Basketballer, I think I just thought the pose was cool.Hey,can anyone tell me who the guy is? I knid of want to know now.

This is some more stuff I did for the Bible Society recently. They have kindly given me permission to post it in my journal.I drew each of the fruits and elements separately, inked and scanned them, coloured them in photoshop and then placed them as you see them now.These characters will be gracing the pages of the kids calendar next year;I'll give an update when the calendar is available for sale.

woah, 5 months since I posted, guess I was a bit distracted. I am turning this into a portfolio blog of sorts, so I will be posting a lot of my stuff on here, and I will update anyone who cares with my latest stuff whenever I complete something new. Well I didn't win any prize money at the exhibition, but my Dancer illustration came second in the drawing category, receiving a Highly Commended, so that was nice and surprising. Still a chance that someone might buy them; actually, Georgia overheard a little girl with obviously no taste trying to talk her grandma into letting her buy my 'blue mountain' painting with the $500 that granny had given her for the occassion. Sheesh, when I was that age,the entire contents of my bedroom, including furniture didn't even add up to $500!! What the dickens is going ON with this world??..............sorry,I digress.
Please buy my painting, little girl, I haven't eaten since Monday.

Landscape, apparantly

This Friday is the prize-giving night for the art exhibition I have entered in. Here is an image of the other work I entered, done with acrylic on canvas. I used a photo for the basis of the painting, but ended up changing it so much that only the mountain and perhaps one palm tree resemble the original photo anymore, which is the way I like to do things when painting landscapes.
